Sample Code

My programming background includes C, Java, C++, Forth, Perl, PHP, Elisp, assembler, others I've forgotten, and others I wish I could forget, on many processors and many machines. Here, some sample code I've written:

C

• To find files on MS-DOS® and Windows® use fn.c. It finds all file names on the drive, including hidden and system. The user may pipe the output for further processing. The executable is available for download.
• To remove (delete) files from MS-DOS® and Windows® use rms.c. The name of the program is taken from the Unix equivalent of "Delete", rm. However, rms.c works differently. The executable is available for download.
• Dump.c is a module useful for debugging.
• Programmers close to the silicon, such as device driver writers, have to debug their programs. To do that, it is useful to print out the contents of a register bit field by bit field. Register makes debugging close to the silicon much easier. This is the only muti-file program I have here, and shows a simple makefile.

Forth

• This article shows how to implement atexit:, the Forth equivalent of C's atexit() function.

Perl

• The graphics tree walker shows how to implement a CGI script in Perl that lets the user walk the virtual directory structure on a web page.
• There is a Perl script hidden in the Bare Metal Recovery HOWTO.
• Some Perl scripts to assist users of GpsDrive
• randomize randomizes a set of command line arguments

Shell Script

• Wallpaper2 shows how to change background images in X and in Gnome. It shows some pretty hairy string manipulations in BASH.
• Buildiso shows how I build ISO images ready for burning as a CD-ROM, complete with a bootable Linux rescue/recovery system.
• There are lots of shell scripts in the Bare Metal Recovery HOWTO.

Web

• One problem with HTML frames is that one is expected to provide content both for frames-capable browsers and for frames-challenged browsers. At first look, this appears to mean two separate source files, making maintenance difficult. Single Source Frames shows how to use the same source file for both the frames and non-frames versions of a web page.

Elisp
